What Are Funding Rates?
Funding rates are periodic payments between long and short traders on perpetual futures. They keep the perpetual price anchored to the spot price. When funding is positive, longs pay shorts. When negative, shorts pay longs.
Extreme funding rates signal overcrowded positioning. If funding has been deeply negative for hours, short sellers are paying a premium to hold their positions. This creates conditions for a short squeeze if price moves against them. The Squeeze Radar tracks these setups across all coins.
Smart money often positions against extreme funding. When funding is deeply negative but elite wallets are going long, it suggests the overcrowded short trade may unwind. The "Smart Money" column in the table above shows you this cross-reference in real time.
How to Read This Page
- Funding Rate shows the current 8-hour rate. Multiply by 3 for the daily cost, or check the Annualized column.
- 8h Cost / $10K shows how much a $10,000 position would pay or receive in the next funding period.
- Sentiment classifies the rate: Bullish (negative, shorts pay), Bearish (positive, longs pay), Neutral (near zero), or Extreme.
- Smart Money shows the current elite wallet consensus direction for that coin.
